Refund Policy
To keep everything clear and fair, here’s how cancellations, refunds and date changes work when booking with The Dorset Wedding Co.
Booking Fee (£500)
A £500 booking fee is required to secure your wedding date.
-
This fee covers admin, reserving your date, initial planning time and early work.
-
The £500 booking fee is non-refundable under all circumstances.
-
It is deducted from your final balance.
This is in line with UK consumer rights guidance, which allows for non-refundable deposits when they fairly reflect costs already incurred.
Cancellation by the Couple
If you cancel your booking, refunds are based on how much planning work has taken place.
More than 12 months before the wedding date:
-
£500 booking fee: non-refundable
-
Any additional payments: 75% refunded
6–12 months before the wedding date:
-
£500 booking fee: non-refundable
-
Additional payments: 50% refunded
3–6 months before the wedding date:
-
£500 booking fee: non-refundable
-
Additional payments: 25% refunded
Less than 3 months before the wedding date:
-
£500 booking fee: non-refundable
-
Additional payments: non-refundable
At this stage, the majority of planning work and supplier coordination will already have taken place.
Why?
UK consumer law allows service providers to keep payments that reflect work already completed or costs that cannot be recovered. This structure ensures fairness for both sides.
Cancellation by The Dorset Wedding Co.
I will only cancel in extreme or unavoidable circumstances (e.g., illness, emergency).
If this ever happens:
-
You will receive a full refund, including the £500 booking fee.
-
I will do my best to help you find a trusted replacement planner.
Postponements
If you need to postpone:
-
Payments already made will transfer to your new date as long as I'm available.
-
If I’m not available for the new date, the situation will be treated as a cancellation (see Section 2).
-
A date-change fee may apply if significant re-planning is required.
I always aim to be as flexible and fair as possible.
Changing Your Package
If you choose to reduce your package after booking:
-
The £500 deposit remains non-refundable.
-
Any work already completed will be deducted from any refundable amount.
-
Upgrades can be added at any time if available.
Force Majeure (Events Outside Control)
Certain events beyond anyone’s control — such as extreme weather, venue closure, or government restrictions — fall under “force majeure.”
-
Refunds follow the same structure as a client-led cancellation.
-
Wherever possible, I will support moving your date rather than cancelling outright.
Supplier Refunds
Refunds from external suppliers (venues, florists, photographers, etc.) are handled individually by them, as each supplier has their own policy.
Cancellations Must Be in Writing
For clarity and records, all cancellations and postponements must be confirmed by email
